My kids love a good smoothie. I love them too, and I've found a simple way to sweeten them up without actually spooning in any extra sugar. What is it?
The syrup from a can of fruit.
I save it in a plastic container when the kids each peaches or we have some other fruit out of a can. It adds a good amount of sweetness and makes fruit smoothies taste so much better.
My kids love banana smoothies so we usually use it with those, but you can add it to any flavor.
Mmmm......
That works for us.

Frugal Friday: The Radio Shopping Show
Okay, so yesterday my husband and I got a six month membership to an Anytime Fitness health club in our area for a little over $5 per month each!!
Can you say great deal?!
We checked out the health club, and they have very nice machines (with a T.V. in them), and the best part about this particular health club is that they have so many locations and with our membership we can go to ANY of them. Yay!
How did I get this deal? The Radio Shopping Show.
Now before I explain what I know about The Radio Shopping Show, I want to say that I'm NOT an expert on it. My mom recently shared it with me (that's how a lot of people find out about it--word of month), and this was my first time buying something. But, I'll do my best to explain what I do know.
The Radio Shopping Show is a radio program that airs at various times throughout the day in:
Denver, Colorado
Dallas, Texas
Colorado Springs
Ocala, Florida
Jackson, Mississippi
and Illinois.
All you need to do is request a free key tag (to keep things fair and honest--you will have your own number), and then listen to the program where they'll be highlighting companies, and how you can call in and request a certificate for all kinds of different places at a deep discount. For example, we got a couples membership to the health club for $70, and it would originally cost over $450. You can check out a lot of the companies they currently have certificates for on their website.
How are they able to offer such discounts?
Well, from what I understand, certain restaurants, hotels, health clubs, fast food places, etc.... are giving The Radio Shopping Show a certain amount of certificates for FREE in exchange for advertising their company's name on the air. Hence the reason you can not order the certificates at a deeply discounted rate online. You MUST either call in while the program is on the air and SAY the name of the business you want to purchase a certificate for or visit a Road Show. A Road Show is where The Radio Shopping Show goes on the road. They set up shop outside a Burger King for example, and you can go there and buy the certificates directly. If you purchase over the radio, you can either have them mailed to you or you can go pick them up. One more thing about the Road Shows, if you are able to visit one, there is a possibility of picking something up at an even BIGGER discount.
If you don't have The Radio Shopping Show in your area, just bookmark their site and check back in a few months as their website states that they will soon be premiering more shows in many other markets.
Check out all the details here.

WFMW: Frugal Gift Ideas
This week's WFMW is a themed edition, and we are challenged to come up with our best idea or tip for the holiday season.
I thought about it and decided I'll share on something I've written about here before when it comes to gift giving.
The holidays can really stress people out trying to find the "perfect" or "right" gift for the people they love. We start looking for that special gift that won't end up never being used or returned to the store you got if from. Then comes the question of how much that gift will cost. And what if you have like 10 people or more to buy for. Yikes! For us frugalites, whether you are frugal because you have to be or you are frugal because you want to be....that can be a scary thought. And the money spent out of pocket can really add up fast, but it doesn't have to.
If you're looking for a great gift that probably won't cost you much money, then I have an idea you may want to try this year.
Gift baskets.
Make up your own gift baskets filled with all those free and cheap products you got by coupon clipping this year.
Here are a few tips to help you along the way:
1. Decide early (as in now) if this is something that you'd like to do, and then begin to go through all those extras you have. If you're like me and you've been stocking up throughout the year on free shampoo, conditioner, make up, deodorant, and the myriad of other totally name brand and cool stuff we get for pennies or less, then you probably have more than enough to go around.
Last year when I did this for about ten people, I came up with A LOT of stuff I had stockpiled, and I didn't even "feel" it when I gave a ton of it away at Christmas. I had decided early on that this was something I was going to do for last year's Christmas and so I went through the products I had at home, and then between October and December I made a conscious effort to get free and cheap products that I thought those I was giving the baskets to would love and appreciate.
2. Look for deals on nice gift baskets. Some craft stores like Micheal's or JoAnn's regularly offer coupons in their weekly fliers. You can use those to get cheap, high quality baskets.
3. Purchase clear plastic wrap to put your gift basket in for a nice touch. Check out your local dollar store to see if they sell this.
4. Use tissue paper and ribbon to dress it up.
5. Add homemade or store bought sweets. Last year, I spent a day in the kitchen making up several different sweet treats (caramel apples, truffles, rice crispy treats, fudge), and I put them in cute little bags I had gotten from Micheal's--with a coupon.
I also got some really cheap plastic holiday bags from Walgreens that we put several different kinds of chocolate in. I had kept an eye out for candy deals (there were PLENTY last year), and I stocked up. I will admit, however, that I did go overboard on the candy last year. We had a ton left over, and I won't be doing that again this year. I'm afraid my kids may have gotten a cavity or two because of last year's candy leftovers!
7. Include a gift card if you'd like. Say you want to give a good gift to a parent or sibling, but you really can't afford to spend a lot of money and you don't think giving them a gift basket is "enough," then just include a gift card to a place they'd like to shop. BUT, since you are already giving them a totally cool, heartfelt, gift basket.....you can give them a lesser value gift card. For example, instead of a $50 gift card, give them a $25 gift card.
Or you could give the gift basket in addition to a smaller gift.
6. Have fun, and include your children. Let them help out especially if you are thinking about doing this for several people. It was A Lot of work getting these together for everyone last year, and my kids were a big help, especially with the candy bags and baking.
And that's my tip friends! Go ahead and give it a try if you are looking for a creative and frugal way to gift give this year.

Super Savings Saturday! Target:100% Savings!
I had coupons for everything except the orange basket which was $0.99. For that, I had a $1.00 off coupon when you use your Discover credit card which was expiring today.
And of course, I DID have coupon issues. The cashier did not want me to use manufacturer's coupons on the travel size products (Tide, Arm & Hammer Toothpaste, & J&J Red Cross product), BUT this time I was prepared with Target's coupon policy which clearly states, "Coupon amount may be reduced if it exceeds the value of the item..."
And none of the coupons I presented for the travel size products excluded the travel size so according to Target's own policy the cashier was supposed to adjust the coupon down to the price of the item. I showed the cashier Target's own policy, and even after that I was told that the coupon could not be adjusted down. Okay......
So another Target employee was called, and I showed her Target's policy (neither of them really seemed interested in it), and at first she seemed to agree with the first cashier and it was looking like they were not going to abide by their own policy, but then she decided that the coupon COULD be adjusted down to the value of the item. Thank you!
I wish every Target register had a copy of their coupon policy so that Target cashiers would be more knowledgeable, and we could all avoid these types of instances. This would make for happier customers and Target employees, I think.
But even with all the coupon issues I've had checking out at Target, I still like shopping at Target. I think they've got a great coupon policy too. I just wish more of their employees were aware of it!
In summary, my total before coupons and after any sales was $44.88 (that's what I would have paid if I didn't have any coupons....crazy...if you're a frugalite like me.) After coupons, I paid $2.09. Yay!
How did you do?
P.S. I did not buy the skeleton head in the picture. It's just for fun!
